Arkansas angler wins Grenada Lake BFL

Jeff Johnston won the BFL stop at Grenada Lake on June 25 by just less than a pound.

Iuka’s Roger Stegall ends up second in Bass Fishing League tournament.

Arkansas’ Jeff Johnston put a limit of bass weighing 15 pounds, 5 ounces in the boat June 25 to win the Bass Fishing League stop on Grenada Lake. Mississippi’s Roger Stegall was just less than a pound back in the BFL event.

Johnston said he was fishing shallow in Turkey Creek, flipping Havoc plastics on a black-and-blue jig to catch his tournament-winning stringer and pocket the $3,842 top check.

Stegall of Iuka weighed in five bass for 14-6, winning $1.921. Zack Bull of Tennessee wrapped up in third with 12-8, while West Point’s Gene Brown and Tennessee’s Larry Jenkins tied for fouth with 11-5.

Laurel’s Tim Davis grabbed the top co-angler finish with 9 pounds, 8 ounces to win $1,921. Rounding out the top five in the co-angler division were Michael Marlin of Nesbit, Miss., 9-7; Columbus’ Kenneth Underwood, 9-0; Jimmy Tisdale of Ellisville, 8-4; and Louisiana’s Michael Roppolo, 7-10.

The next and final BFL Mississippi Division tournament is scheduled for Sept. 24-25 on Pickwick Lake out of Iuka.

After the fifth Mississippi Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 13-15 Regional Championship on Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Ala., where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy pick-up. Co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
