Bay Springs Site Office

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Site Office is located on the east side of Bay Springs Lake just off of MS Highway 4 in Tishomingo County. The staff from this office is responsible for the operation of the navigation, recreation and natural resources along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway from Amory to Pickwick Lake on the Tennessee River. The approximately eight thousand square foot office building was completed in 1987. Since opening, thousands of visitors have viewed the exhibits in the visitor center of the building. The visitor center is open year round to the public Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. and from Memorial Day through Labor Day from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The area around the office contains a nature trail, dogtrot cabin and an overlook.

Inside the office visitors will find a welcome area with exhibits, maps and brochures about the facilities available of the project, the natural resources of the area and the history of the TennesseeTombigbee Waterway. The theater located at this office is used by Corps of Engineers Rangers to promote water safety and educate visitors on various topics. Visitors can choose from a listing of educational films to view.

The Butler dogtrot cabin can be found just up the nature trail from the office or from the Overlook area. This cabin was relocated from an area close to the Jackson Camp peninsula that is now flooded. The nature trail ends at the east side of Whitten Lock and Dam. From this Overlook, visitors can see Bay Springs Lake.
