Fishing Grenada, Enid

Kent Driscoll of B’n’M gets the net for Duck Commander Jay Stone, under the watchful eyes of B’n’M president Jack Wells.

Getting there: Grenada Lake is located just east of I-55 in the heart of North Mississippi and is the second in line of Mississippi’s I-55 corridor lakes — Barnett Reservoir near Jackson, Grenada, Enid, Sardis and Arkabutla. Take Exit 206 off of I-55 to reach the town of Grenada, for which the lake is named.

Enid Lake Enid is just east of I-55 about 12 miles south of Batesville. Crappie guide John Harrison recommends putting in at the Water Valley Landing which is located on Water Valley Boat Landing Rd.

Best Techniques: Crankbait trolling anglers catch the lion’s share of crappie when the weather gets hot. In order to target suspended crappie, pro angler Kent Driscoll uses a line out formula. If he wants to target fish that are holding 12 feet deep, he lets out 110 feet of line. His formula is:

Amount of line out divided by 10, plus 1 foot. So to get to 12 feet he lets out (110/ 10 ) + 1 = 12 feet. For a down rod calculation, using a 2-ounce weight above the crank bait, he simply doubles the amount of line out for the depth he wants to fish. So to reach 12 feet, he lets out 24 feet of line.

Accommodations: On the south shore of Enid Lake just off Mississippi Highway 32 is George Cossar State Park with cabins and a restaurant. Motel accommodations are also available in Batesville. Grenada Lake has many motels, which can be found online through the Hooked on Grenada Tourism Commission’s at www.grenadamississippi.com or by calling 1-800-373-2571.
