War Eagle’s “Side Pulling” Package

While other anglers are spider rigging for fall crappie, guide Brad Whitehead uses a sideways trolling approach known as side pulling.

In order to accommodate the crappie enthusiast who’s gotten hooked on fishing sideways, Monticello, Ark.-based War Eagle Boats has started offering a list of side pulling options on its RG 1754 model aluminum boats. The design and setup were the brain child of side-pulling founder and War Eagle pro-staffer, Roger Gant.

“Side Pulling is an easy tactic that’s fun to do,” said Pickwick guide Roger Gant, “and while any fisherman can do it from just about any boat, there are some options that make it easier.”

Specific options that benefit the side pulling angler is seat placement to the right of the boat’s center line. This feature not only allows sideways facing anglers more room to fish, but also places the livewell and sonar mounting capabilities on the left side so that anglers don’t have to move from their seat to drop a fish in the livewell or get a good view of the sonar screen from anywhere in the boat. Of course, placement of the trolling motor is what gives side pulling its name.

“The most obvious need is a way to mount a trolling motor to the side of the boat,” said War Eagle President John Ward. “We offer an adjustable trolling motor mounting bracket that can be attached anywhere along the boat’s cap rail with our T-Lock system.”
