Marine Patrol responds to capsized vessel at Horn Island

MDMR officers find four boaters who were ejected.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources’ Marine Patrol responded to a boating accident in which four people were ejected from the vessel Tuesday (Oct. 18) morning at the west tip of Horn Island, the agency reported.

None of those ejected from the boat sustained serious injuries, the MDMR said.

The call came in to MDMR Marine Patrol at 10:25 a.m. and Marine Patrol officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The boat’s operator, 27-year-old Jon Barr of Petal, Miss., told officers a wave hit the boat and caused it to capsize and eject him and three adult passengers, the MDMR reported.

Two of the four were wearing life vests.

The individuals involved swam to the south side of Horn Island where Marine Patrol officers met them around 10:41 a.m. and transported them safely to the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor where American Medical Response was standing by.

All four passengers declined medical attention.
