Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources approves flounder, croaker records.
Two saltwater state-record fish catches — one for conventional tackle and one for fly fishing — were certified Oct. 16 by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources, the agency announced yesterday (Oct. 17).
The Commission verified that Matt Glenn of Pascagoula broke the conventional-tackle state record for Atlantic Croaker with a 5-pound, 1-ounce fish on Sept. 28.
Glenn’s fish edged out the previous record, a 4-pound, 12-ounce croaker caught in November 1990 by Tom Pellegrin.
The fly-fishing record verified by the Commission was a 4-pound, 14-ounce southern flounder caught Sept. 21 by Ocean Spring’s Joshua Lyon.
Lyon’s catch broke the previous record of 2 pounds, 12.8 ounces that was caught by Doug Borries in October 2009.
