Traffic remains brisk for the 920 available permits statewide
Monday (June 9) is the final day for hunters to apply for Mississippi’s 2014 statewide alligator season, which will be held Aug. 29-Sept. 8 in seven zones.
Applications will be accepted through midnight only at mdwfp.com. It costs nothing to apply and applicants can enter as many zones as they choose, but can only apply once in any single zone.
A total of 920 permits will be awarded through the draw process.
The process is limited to only Mississippi residents aged 16 and over, who hold a hunting/fishing license or are otherwise exempt (age or disability).
Biologist Ricky Flynt, the alligator program director for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, said the electronic draw should be held within five days and successful applicants will be notified by e-mail. Once the draw is completed, applicants can also visit mdwfp.com at the draw hunt portal to see if their attempts were successful.
Before Friday, nearly 5,000 unique individuals had entered nearly 18,000 zone applications.
