WMA public meetings set

First one is Tuesday night north of Vicksburg

Hunters and other users of the state’s public Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) are being asked for their input on proposed regulations for the 2014-15 hunting seasons.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) will hold a series of six open house meetings, beginning Tuesday at Mahannah WMA on U.S. Highway 61 north of Vicksburg. All of the scheduled meetings will begin at 3 p.m. and should end by 6 p.m.

All WMA users, adjacent landowners, hunting clubs and interested citizens are encouraged to attend.

“It is very important for the MDWFP to meet with our customers and hear input from the public at every available opportunity,” said Chris McDonald, MDWFP Wildlife Bureau assistant director. “These meetings will give us the opportunity to promote our WMA system, gain input from the public regarding regulations, and provide information about WMAs to the public.”

* Wednesday: Roosevelt State Park near Morton

* April 29: Franklin County Public Library in Meadville

* May 6: Tombigbee State Park near Tupelo

* May 7: North Mississippi Fish Hatchery Visitor Education Center near Enid

* May 13: Paul B Johnson State Park near Hattiesburg

MDWFP WMA personnel, wildlife biologists and law enforcement officers will be in attendance to answer questions from the public regarding proposed regulation changes.
