Extravaganza winners announced

Trey Renfroe's 164 3/8-inch buck won the Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza's typical Men's Firearm contest.

After the 185 bucks entered into the 2010 Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza had been scored, and some beautiful bucks topped the event.

Leading the Men’s Firearm category was Mark Lewis’ 173 5/8-inch Lowndes County non-typical buck. On the typical side of that category was Trey Renfroe, whose Yazoo County deer taped out at 164 3/8.

In the Men’s Archery contest, Thad Greer took top non-typical honors with his 148 1/8-inch Claiborne County buck. However, Stephen Keen’s typical buck taken in Warren County actually outscored Greers, with Keen’s deer accumulating 149 3/8-inches.

The top men’s muzzleloader typical part of the event was Ed Martin, who entered a 156 2/8-inch deer killed in Hinds County. A buck killed in Yazoo County by Mark Ross scored 152 3/8 to earn the top typical muzzie kill.

The largest buck killed by a woman was a 149 3/8-class non-typical shot with a rifle by Megan Stuard in Jasper County. Mollie VanDevender’s 148 5/8-inch buck, which came from Issaquena County, took the top prize in the typical firearm category.

Rounding out the women’s category was Katie Bennett’s typical archery kill, which scored 117 inches. Bennett’s deer was stuck in Grenada County.

Courtney Kay Goff earned top honors in Youth Female contest with her typical Copiah County buck, killed with a rifle, that scored 152 2/8 inches.

In the Youth Male category, Walt Stubbs won the archery title with a 127 6/8-inch typical Bolivar County deer. The top firearms non-typical in this category was a 134 5/8-inch deer killed by Baylor Anderson Obert in Chickasaw County, while Will Osborne took the typical firearms category with a 147 3/8-inch Yazoo County buck.
