Users Renot16 and bhobbs earned MS-Sportsman.com prize packages today (Dec. 6) for winning the November installments of the Nikon Deer of the Year and Trail contests.
Each winner moves on to the final voting session to be held in February to determine the overall contest winners.
In the Nikon Deer of the Year Contest, Renot16 (known to family and friends as Matthew Renot) edged out the competition with 53 percent of the total votes for “Yazoo NWR giant.” The deer eventually green scored 157 inches Pope & Young.
“I arrowed this … buck after passing on a 130-inch buck that moorning and the morning before,” Renot wrote in his entry.

Just behind Renot with 46 percent of the vote was Scott Chapin (aka “scott in hinds”), who posted a photo of his son Willie with a giant Hinds County 10-point – the young man’s first buck.
User Doug Scott (who uses his own name as his forum alias) came in third with a single vote for his 276 ½-inch Texas buck.
In the Trail Cam Contest, Bryan Hobbs (or “bhobbs” as he’s known on the forum) managed the win with 39 percent of the total votes cast for his “follow the leader” image showing two big velvet bucks walking single file in front of his trail cam.
“(The photo) was taken a week before bow-season opener,” Hobbs wrote. “I have not seen or had pictures of either deer since this was taken.”
CPounds (or “Chuck Pounds” as he’s also known) didn’t miss the win by much; his “Checking Nutritional Content” photo earned 33 percent of the total votes. The image shows a deer seemingly reading the nutritional values from a feed bag.
“All I can say is this deer can apparently read,” Pounds wrote.
Ross Gassen (who goes by “LSU Maniac” on the forum) collected the remaining 28 percent for “Look Out,” an image of a Lawrence County stud Gassen dubbed “Big Dude.”
The contests continue through the end of the deer season, with monthly voting sessions determining winners. At the end of the contests, all monthly winners will be eligible for the final voting sessions in which overall winners will be chosen.
Anyone can enter photos, but only registered MS-Sportsman.com users are eligible for the voting sessions.
