Best frog-fishing equipment for bass

Cameron believes grass is the key to locating big bass this month.

Josh Cameron prefers a 7-foot rod and 60- to 80-pound braided line to pull big fish from thick grass.

Jenifer Flanagan agreed that braid is important.

“I want to use braid because it’s strong, tough and also floats on the water and doesn’t pull that frog down,” Flanagan said. “Braid also helps when you’re fishing around logs and lily pads when that bass gets down in the brush or buries up in the pads and it keeps them from breaking off; it usually gives me time to get to them and get them out without losing them.”

Cameron ties a 5/0 Gamakatsu Superline Superwide hook to his line, hiding it in his favored Zoom Horny Toads.

He matches this all up with a high-ratio reel.

“I like a reel that’s just fast enough to keep the frog on top to let his legs flutter,” Cameron said.
