Making of an Elite pro

Brock Mosley of Collinsville built his blossoming BASS career on the strength of square-bill crankbaits in the spring.

Brock Mosley was more connected to the fishing world than most aspiring anglers, with his father Danny owning a Ranger dealership in Collinsville during the young fisherman’s formative years.

“Growing up in that dealership had a big impact on me, and when I went to my first (Bassmaster) Classic, that’s when I really knew that I wanted to fish for a living when I grew up,” Mosley said. “My dad had a big influence on my fishing. He got me started and I learned a lot from him, and we still fish together now.

“Another influence was my uncle Hank Perkins, who was fishing the Red Man Trail back in those days.”

While the younger Mosley had fun catching fish, he always focused on learning the basics of bass fishing and the reasoning behind where the bass were located and how to catch them.

His biggest tournament bass weighed 9 pounds, 5 ounces, and was caught on the first day of the 2015 Bassmaster Open tournament at Lake Kissimmee in Florida.

“They didn’t allow a net, and it was quite an experience,” he said.
