Pete Ponds’ basics for fishing with frogs

Basic equipment:

Rod: 7-foot, 10-inch heavy Boyd Duckett Rod in thick cover with braid or 7-foot, 3-inch medium heavy rod when fishing open water.

Reel: Ardent Edge Reel (7.2:1 gear ratio)

Line: 65-pound Vicious Braid

Favorite frog: Scum Frogs’ Scumdog Walker with Owner Hooks.

Favorite technique: Walking the dog

Best location to fish: During May you’ll catch bass around vegetation or almost anywhere you have some type of cover, such as wood or brushtops.

Favorite lakes on frogs: Ross Barnett has been a good frog fishing lake since way back, while Calling Panther is productive because it has a lot of timber and wood.
