Voting begins in March edition of Big Bass Contest

This photo of Dan Roberts' huge Turkey Fork bass is one of three images being voted on for the March edition of the Big Bass Contest.

MS-Sportsman.com users can help choose the March winner of the Big Bass Contest by voting from the three photos chosen from among the entries in the monthly contest. This month’s entries include some huge fish caught around the state.

Up for the latest award, which will include a $15 Sportsman Outdoor Store coupon and a free one-year subscription to Mississippi Sportsman magazine, are users Dan Roberts (aka DanRoberts), Andrew Gordon (known as skeeterzx185 on the forum) and Eli Frierson (who goes by his real name on the site).

Voting concludes at the end of the day Wednesday (April 6).

Roberts’ entry shows him holding a big Turkey Fork Reservoir bass caught in early March while his buddy, Daniel Netterville, was changing batteries around because of some electrical problems the duo was having.

“… I decided to toss a frog around the area,” Roberts said. “After a few casts, this brute decided to choke down my frog.

“At first, I thought she was a routine Turkey Fork 3- to 4-pounder, but once it broke the surface I saw otherwise.”

The pair of anglers eventually were stranded because of battery problems, but that didn’t ruin the day for Roberts.

“We almost never made it back to the boat ramp, but it was one of the best days of fishing I have ever experienced,” he said.

Gordon’s entry is of a 9-pound bass caught in a Lowndes County.

“I caught this 9-pounder at a farm pond with a june bug Paca Craw made by NetBait,” he explained.

The final entry by Frierson was Pearl River hawg he estimated to go about 11 pounds.

“(She) and the mail were both on a bed in less than 2 feet of water,” Frierson said. “I knew she was a good fish, but I didn’t realize just how big (until) I caught the male, which was pushing 4 pounds.

“Knowing she was approximately three times the size of him only got my heart racing faster.”

It didn’t take long thereafter to hook the big sow.

“As soon as I landed her I called my father who came and took this picture,” Frierson said. “I released her and never got a weight, but she was right there with the 11-pounder I had previously caught.”

April is the final month of the contest, so be sure and enter your bass photos today. But remember, only registered users of the site are eligible for the contest. If you haven’t already registered, just fill out the short registration form to get started today.
