About three years ago, West Point’s B’n’M Poles, made an expansion of their nearly exclusive crappie and panfish lines to include catfish rods.
One of the first tournament teams to be approached to test and design new rods were Joey and Jerry Pounders of Columbus.
Having used nearly every catfish rod on the market, Joey Pounders had critical a critical role in the development of B’n’M’s Silver Cat Magnum rods.
“I had a little bit of say-so on the development of this rod,” said Pounders. “It’s got several features that I believe make it the best catfish rod on the market. First these new 90-percent carbon, 10-percent fiberglass rods are tough as nails and can handle the big fish.
“Second, catfishing can be nasty, wet, slippery work and the nylon cord wrapped handles give you a better grip. They also feature super-slick guides and a tough graphite reel seat. The new Magnum series is a tournament-level, heavy-duty rod, offered at a casual fisherman’s price.”
Pounders said the rods have contributed greatly to the team’s success on the national catfish trail circuits.
“These rods start with sensitivity to the smallest nibble, and finish with the backbone you need to haul in the monsters,” Pounders said. “Plus, they’re the best looking rods on the water.”
New for 2016, the Silver Cat Magnum catfish rod from B’n’M is now being offered in a 10-foot model. The two piece rods come in spinning and casting versions and possess all of the attributes of the shorter rods while providing the added length for more distance casting and better control to leverage big catfish out from around heavy cover.
