Where to find Magnolia crappie

Magnolia crappie are a hybrid between the two prevailing species of crappie — a female white crappie and male black crappie.

According to Tom Holman, MDWFP’s Fish Hatcheries Program coordinator, Magnolia crappie have been stocked in 12 of the ’s 19 state lakes since 2007.

Additionally, four community-assistance program lakes have received the hybrid crappie. A community-assistance program lake is one of a variety of small water bodies owned by counties, cities and private groups, and may or may not be open to public fishing.

The quality of the fishing in these waters varies depending on the knowledge of fisheries management techniques possessed by those who own or manage these waters.
