MDWFP to be out on water for July 4 weekend, agency says

Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks agents will be on the water in force during the long July 4 weekend, the agency reported.

The goal will be to ensure a safe boating experience.

Officers will be checking boaters for adequate personal flotation devices, running lights after sunset and to make sure all persons 12 years of age and younger are wearing life jackets.

The agents also will be enforcing regulations related to boating under the influence and boat registration requirements.

“It is our intention to make this the safest Fourth of July holiday in history,” the announcemen read. “Just by following a few simple rules boaters can keep their recreational outing from turning tragic.”
