Dove field hunting permits now available, MDWFP says

Permits for private-land dove hunts are now on sale by MDWFP.

Permits can be purchased for individual dove-hunting fields or all five fields in program.

Permits for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ private lands dove field hunts are available for purchase beginning today (Aug. 4), the agency reported. Each permit allows a hunter access to one of the MDWFP’s five leased fields during the first two dove seasons. The fields are located in Panola, Madison, Kemper, Rankin and Lincoln counties.

The cost of each permit starts at $100 for an individual field permit. For an avid dove hunter who would like to hunt all five fields, a Dove Club permit is available for $200.

Permits went on sale at http://www.mdwfp.com beginning at 8 a.m. this morning (Aug, 4).

A limited number of permits are available on each field. After all the permits are sold for each field, no more permits will be available.

Hunting is limited to afternoons only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays to maintain hunt quality.

The program is designed to be family-friendly, with youth encouraged to hunt. Therefore, up to two youth may hunt free of charge when accompanied by a permitted adult hunter.

“We designed this program to try to duplicate the type of dove hunts most Mississippians have grown up with, where the hunt was centered around family and friends,” MDWFP wildlife biologist Scott Baker said.

Aerial photos and descriptions for each field are available online so hunters can pick the hunting stand of their choice on a first come, first serve basis. More information on dove field permits can be found at www.mdwfp.com or by calling 601.432.2199.
