Track Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza scoring on MS-Sportsman.com

This 169-inch bruiser killed last year on Mahannah WMA by MS-Sportsman.com moderator Eddie Peterson will be on display during the Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza at the MS-Sportsman.com booth.

The Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza attracts trophy deer from all over the state to be officially scored for inclusion in the official Magnolia Records, and MS-Sportsman.com will be there recording all the action.

“As deer are scored, we’ll be taking photos of as many of the bucks as possible,” MS-Sportsman.com’s Andy Crawford said. “We’ll also be shooting videos of some of the biggest deer entered, allowing the hunters to tell their stories.”

The event is scheduled for Aug. 6-8 at the Trade Mart on the Fairgrounds in Jackson, and is hosted by the Mississippi Wildlife Federation.

Photos and videos will be posted throughout the three-day event on a dedicated Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza section.

Voting sessions will be held to allow users to choose their favorite deer from each day, with an overall User’s Choice Award chosen from the three daily winners.

Click here to see the photos and vote for your favorite as the show develops. The page will go live and a link will be added to the home page Friday morning.

The MS-Sportsman.com booth also will be displaying the 169-inch monster buck killed on Mahannah WMA by Waveland’s Eddie Peterson last year.

“We’ll also be signing up new users at our booth, and each new user will be entered in daily drawings for Plano gun cases,” Crawford said. “So we invite everyone to stop by, visit us and sign up for the drawing.”

Once registered, users can begin using the MS-Sportsman.com forum to post photos from their hunting trips, share information and talk hunting.

“We’ll fill out the online registration forms for everyone who signs up at that show, so all you have to do is sign on and get started,” Crawford explained. “It can’t get any easier than that.”

The forum has just been upgraded to include many great functions, including profile pages on which users can include a photo and some biographical information.

“It’s sort of like facebook for the hunters and fishermen,” Crawford said.

Of course, you also can subscribe to Mississippi Sportsman at the same time to ensure you don’t miss any of the information-packed issues. Be sure and check on the show specials to receive the best value.

Although the deer scoring is one of the primary reasons to visit attend the Extravaganza, that’s certainly not all there is to do. There also will be 24 seminars held.

For instance, renowned deer expert Larry Weishuhn will be on hand to share the knowledge he’s built over a lifetime of studying whitetails.

Other seminars will be led by turkey hunter Preston Pittman, turkey caller Paul Meek and Mississippi snake expert Terry Vandeventer.

Children’s seminars also will be held throughout each event day.

Show hours are 3-9 p.m. on Aug. 6, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 8.

Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children (6 to 12 years of age) and free to children aged 5 and younger. However, children 12 and younger will be admitted free on Aug. 6, with the normal adult admission fee being reduced to $7.

“The show really gets us all focused in on the upcoming deer season,” Crawford said. “So come on out, have a good time and share some of your favorite hunting stories with us.”
