Best Mississippi ledge-fishing lakes

Lake Pickwick is the most-recognizable Mississippi lake that offers top-notch ledge-fishing opportunities, but it’s not the only one, accomplished angler Ken Murphy said.

“While the Tennessee-Tombigbee River is full of great ledge fishing in June from Columbus Lake all the way up to Pickwick, there are many other lakes in the state that are great ledge fishing lakes,” Murphy said.

Mississippi River lakes including Tunica, Ferguson, Chotard and Albemarle all are great producers when the water level is right, and the fishing can be second to none when they’re stacked on the ledges.

“Lake Ferguson is probably the best ledge-fishing lake in the state during the month of June when it comes to catching tournament limits of 5-pound bass,” said fisheries biologist and accomplished tournament angler Terry Bates. “It’s just a tremendous lake teeming with bass in the 3- to 6-pound range.”
