Shad not the only treats for ledge bass

Murphy lifts another lunker bass he caught while fishing an offshore ledge.

While shad are the baitfish of choice for bass in many lakes, anglers should never forget about other forage species.

“Deep cranking doesn’t always revolve around shad,” Murphy said. “Lunker bass will feed on crappie and big bluegills a lot of times in June.

“The crappie may load up around the ledges, and the bigger bass will utilize the easy pickings for quick meals. Don’t ever overlook a big-fish pattern when you have crappie or other panfish in a lake congregating around the deep ledges.”
