The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks recognizes the important tradition that dove hunting is to the state and works to provide public hunting areas through two different programs.
The first is striving to provide a safe, high-quality dove hunting experience on the MDWFP’s many Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) across the state by planting crops like sunflowers and brown top millet. The MDWFP’s second dove program involves leasing private land from landowners/farmers and providing assistance in preparing fields for dove season, and then making the hunts public by selling memberships. The number and location of fields in the program vary each year, but they are announced around the first of August, usually right before the Mississippi Wildlife Federation’s annual Wildlife Extravaganza held the first weekend in August in Jackson.
