Alligator hunting permits required.
The seventh Mississippi alligator hunting season kicks off Friday (Sept. 9), the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks announced. Hunting on private lands will continue through Oct. 3 on the 83 permitted tracts of land in 25 counties, the MDWFP said.
Also, hunting in the Pearl River Zone near Ross Barnett is open to permitted hunters on Sept. 16-17 and Sept. 23-24, the MDWFP said.

In addition, the Pascagoula River Zone will be open in Jackson County on Sept. 23, 24, 30 and Oct. 1.
Hunting hours run from noon until 6 a.m. the following day for each permitted hunt.
Permitted hunters were selected from a computer-based lottery of 2,892 people who purchased alligator hunting applications in June this year.
Selected applicants were required to attend an alligator-hunting training course before participating in alligator hunts. There are 60 permits issued for each day of hunting in each zone, for a total of 480 permits.
Each hunter is allowed to harvest two alligators longer than 4, only one of which may exceed 7 feet.
