Hunters working gobblers on public lands must realize that the property is open to anybody that wants to use it. That includes both hunters and other people enjoying other forms of recreation.
Once in the past while sitting in my turkey hide on public land, I actually had a guy ride by on his horse. He never saw me, but I know the gobbler I was working saw him — end of hunt.
So, going in, recognize that this may be the situation on the public land site you pick to hunt. It’s just part of the game, and finding success requires beating not only the gobbler, but other hunters, too.
It takes some work, but it can be done.
