Extravaganza has become family tradition

Billy Reynolds remembers vividly his dad leading him by the hand through the doors at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson. It was something they did each August of his youth, and it played a key role in opening his eyes to the world of outdoor sports.

“Dad’s way of kicking off the hunting season every year, and he knew it was the perfect way to spark a kid’s interest,” said Reynolds of Brandon, now a 28-year-old father. “Now, it’s time for me to do the same with my oldest son, Will, who is 4. July issue on its way

The July issue of Mississippi Sportsman will start arriving in mailboxes within the week. The magazine is filled with great information, including the inaugural outdoor report from Bobby Cleveland.

Bring the little ones to Katfishin’ Kids this Saturday

What better way to celebrate the start of summer than with some free fun? Make plans to attend Katfishin’ Kids this Saturday, June 2, from 7 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Turcotte Lab off Highway 43 at the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

This event is free to all and no equipment is needed. Bring the kids, 15 and under, for a fun-filled day where they can learn the basics of fishing. They’ll be taught how to tie a knot, select the correct lure, bait hooks and cast. In addition, the pond will be stocked with catfish for them to try their hand at catching some fish. […]
